Residents approve of end of Peoria airport exploration

When Deputy City Manager Mike Faust announced during the Jan. 14 City Council meeting that Peoria will no longer pursue or market an airport in the city, the chamber packed with residents erupted in applause.

Now that the information has reverberated throughout the city, particularly in north Peoria where the airport was proposed, residents are breathing a sigh of relief.

One of those residents is former Mesquite District Councilmember Brad Shafer, who represented his constituents in their opposition of an airport, as various airport studies were presented to council over the last year.
