Sun Health Research Institute brain, body donation numbers down

Science at heart

There are many ways people give back.

For anyone eager to help advance science, the Sun Health Research Institute’s Brain and Body Donation program is looking for volunteers. While body donation after death is important, having the full picture while the patient is alive is even more valuable. This program began in 1988, according to Dr. Thomas Beach. In the early years it was an end-of-life program, but in 1996 annual clinical assessments began.

“We want people to join while they are living and in decent health. We want a record of how well the individual performed, including daily living activities such as driving and household tasks,” he explained.
