Reports: Shooting of Scottsdale PD detective was an accident

Issues related to how gun was stored identified in Mesa PD investigation

The shooting incident that killed Scottsdale Police Detective Ryan So on June 13 was an accident, according to a report by the Mesa Police Department issued Dec. 10.

While reports for the Mesa Police Department and the Industrial Commission of Arizona recommended no charges in the case, Mesa’s report found several issues investigators theorized contributed to the accidental shooting, particularly how the gun was stored after So was called out on assignment.

“Based on the facts of the investigation, there is no evidence of criminal negligence on the part of any parties,” the report states.
