Report: violent crime on the decline in Old Town Scottsdale

While the Sept. 5 shooting in Old Town that left one man dead and another wounded was definitely tragic, but it is not part of an increasing trend of violence in the area, according to a recent report dated Sept. 16 by Scottsdale City Manager Greg Caton.

In fact, violent crimes in Old Town have been going down — way down — over the last five years, the report said.

Police calls related to violent crime in Old Town have dropped from 433 in 2021 to 165 through Sept. 8 of this year. While the year’s not over yet, that’s still a 44% drop so far from five years ago.
