An investigation by the The U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights has found that the Kyrene School District failed to adequately respond to complaints of anti-Semitic harassment at one of its schools.
The findings were revealed on Aug. 23 after a student filed a complaint against the district. The student said she was subjected to at least five months of anti-Semitic harrassment by nine other students in her class. The names of the students, school and principal involved in the situation and other identifying information has been redacted from the report.
“OCR determined that the district permitted the student to be subjected to a hostile environment based on her Jewish ancestry that was sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive that it interfered with the student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the school’s program,” the report said.
