From gun violence then to a lingering virus now, the soil below where public education occurs has been labeled dangerous ground for American students for nearly a decade.

Aside from the dangers of the virus itself, hundreds of thousands of children in the Arizona public education school system are dealing with unique circumstances creating day-to-day stressors officials say they have never experienced before, which includes the fall out from COVID-19.

As of this writing, the COVID-19 virus has claimed more than 20,000 Arizona lives.
