Renaming Loop 202 for Charlie Kirk would stoke political friction

OPINION — As Arizona Democratic Party Chair Charlene Fernandez stated, “In Arizona, the names we place on our public spaces tell a story about who we are and who we aspire to be.”

Public roadways are vital conduits connecting diverse communities. These spaces should symbolize unity and progress rather than partisanship or political activism.

Charlie Kirk was a podcaster and an activist, not a public servant or elected official who directly improved the state through legislative or civic action.
