Reminisce on Tempe’s past, present businesses in new exhibit

Iconic signs from Tempe’s past and present aim to connect the community and their shared memories of local businesses in Tempe History Museum’s latest exhibit, Tempe Signs, creating a visual representation of the city’s evolution.

Opening to the public on Sept. 14, Tempe Signs features an array of signs that may be familiar to longtime Tempe and Valley residents with memories of beloved restaurants and hallmark retail businesses. Thousands of archival photographs documenting signs throughout Tempe’s history also will be cycled through a digital display at the beginning of the exhibit as an added feature.

Developing this exhibit required not only selecting what signs to use but also procuring additional pieces and restoring older pieces to their former conditions.
