Racing has had some unforgettable moments in its history at Phoenix Raceway.
How about 2016 when Kevin Harvick beat Carl Edwards to the finish line by 0.010 seconds in an overtime photo finish? There was the off-track tussle in 2012 when Clint Bowyer sprinted through the garage area to confront Jeff Gordon after a mid-race run-in. Or in the Phoenix Raceway’s first-ever NASCAR Cup Series race back in 1988 when a victorious Alan Kulwicki celebrated by driving clockwise around the track.
Maybe the track is destined for a new classic moment when the Shriners Children’s 500 starts its engines Sunday, March 9 at the Avondale oval that dates back to 1964 and underwent a $178 million renovation in 2017.
