Remembering the women who fought to form a nation

OPINION — Women played a vital role in the American Revolution and the fight for independence. As the nation prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of its founding in 2026, it is especially important to recognize the contributions of these women.

Many served as spies, messengers, nurses, writers and steadfast supporters of the Patriot cause, often risking their lives. Despite their sacrifices, countless women waited years, sometimes generations, to be recognized or even acknowledged for their efforts.

Remembering their stories helps us better understand the true cost of freedom and the many people who helped secure it.
