Religious leaders: Prayer event focused on election-year peace

Clergy say they're praying for fairness, safety, secure process

PHOENIX — Pastors and ministers are concerned about 2024. Some are concerned about 2023.

Several such clergy spoke Sunday at a one-time interfaith event in Downtown Phoenix focused on a topic churches have historically not spoken often about publicly: elections.

Sunday’s event — called the “Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Secure, Fair and Safe Elections” — was organized and held at the First Institutional Baptist Church to promote peace during the upcoming election year.
