Scottsdale North, a 39-unit townhouse community, was listed on the Register of Historic Places Jan. 25.

Scottsdale North will be celebrating this recognition 4–6 p.m. on April 28 at the common area lawn at Scottsdale North, 5600 N. Scottsdale Road.

Designed by Ronald Craik and constructed in 1968-69, Scottsdale North is known for its modern interpretation of the architecture of Alamos, Mexico, according to a post by the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office.

Developer Eldon Stenjem and real estate agent Weme Caster made several trips to the southern Sonora town and were inspired by the Spanish Colonial and Mexican architecture they saw there.

In addition to the visual inspiration, Stenjem and Caster also brought back architectural elements salvaged from Alamos, including 10 pairs of wooden doors, some of which are still in place, the post stated.

“The process to attain this designation is very long and requires a great deal of documentation and research. We are very proud to be in this select group of locations in Arizona,” Scottsdale North HOA President Sandy Chambers stated in an email.
