Water reductions a must in Sun City West

State mandates call for cutbacks

A state mandate coming down the pipeline will mean changes for Sun City West.

In 1980, legislation was passed for the Arizona Department of Water Resources for a fifth management plan. Over the last three years, the department has been working on the details. The state’s plan is to have this worked out by early fall 2022 with a 60-day adoption, to be ready for implementation at the start of 2025.

With the drought and water usage making noise across the country, many share a misconception golf courses must use a drastically large volume of water. However, according to Gary Brawley, Gary Brawley Golf Design, in Arizona golf uses 1.9% of fresh ground water and is a $3.9 billion a year economic impact on the state.
