Recovia’s medical director receives addictionologist certification

Posted

Dr. Scott Havens, medical director of Recovia, recently received certification as an addictionologist.

Recovia is a pain management and behavioral health center with locations in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.

His board certification in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine gives Recovia an additional level of authority and confidence in its clinical efficacy and patient care, according to a release.

“I have always been passionate about treating addiction and becoming an addiction medicine specialist allows me to better serve our patients,” Havens said in the release. “Being an addiction medicine physician is an opportunity for myself and my colleagues at Recovia to be powerful advocates for policy that promotes wellness among our patients and society.”

Addiction medicine specialists have extensive experience and advanced training in the field of addiction medicine to evaluate, diagnose, and treat people who are struggling with substance use disorders. Their advanced training helps them conceptualize and understand the genetic, biopsychosocial, and spiritual manifestations of addiction and tailor treatments for patients. Addiction medicine physicians also have advanced training in medication treatment for substance use disorders, such as opioid and alcohol use disorder.

David Luksenburg, Recovia’s partner development manager, said Dr. Havens’ specialization is a testament to the outpatient treatment facilities' expertise in the industry.

“Dr. Havens becoming an addictionologist is more validation that Recovia is an authority and high level provider of care in the practice of addiction treatment,” Luksenburg said in the release. “This specialization supports our growth as a treatment center and ensures we continue to craft the most effective treatment procedures.”

Havens’ passion for treating addiction began with his work as an Emergency Medicine physician. For over 20 years he encountered polysubstance use, toxicology, and withdrawal management. Wanting to become a part of the solution, he assisted in one of the largest addiction medicine clinics in the U.S. Along with being Recovia’s medical director, Havens also provides personalized treatment at his private practice.

At Recovia, his role is to oversee all clinical and administrative functions in addition to patient care.

Havens is board certified in addiction medicine. He has a medical degree from St. George’s University’s School of Medicine. He completed his residency at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center.

Recovia is a non-interventional pain clinic and behavioral health center specializing in treatments for chronic pain, general mental health and addiction. The programs offer an integrated outpatient approach to address prescription medication dependency, chronic pain and substance abuse. All programs are based on an interdisciplinary model, combining both medical, behavioral and holistic treatment modalities.
