A cursory public records request reveals the cost of attracting and retaining top-tier municipal talent throughout the major municipal governments of the Valley of the Sun.
The city of Tempe is no exception to six-figure salaries for those who sit in top management positions.
“We determine our salaries by comparing ourselves to other local cities,” said Tempe Human Resources Director Rebecca Strisko. “Most of your top earning city employees are making less money than their private-sector counterparts. In addition, all employees in [Arizona State Retirement System] contribute over 12% of their salaries toward their pensions with matching amounts made by the city.”
