Record number of students enroll at ASU

Arizona State University welcomes more than 144,000 Sun Devils this year, including nearly 9,000 Arizona residents who have chosen ASU as their home for higher education — both a university record and milestone.

ASU continues to chart an innovative vision for higher education — one marked by broad accessibility and academic excellence for an increasingly diverse student body while continuing to advance Arizona’s future and global workforce, a press release stated.

On-campus enrollment will be more than 80,000 for the first time in ASU history.

More than 25,000 first-year students are Hispanic/Latino, reinforcing the school’s commitment as a Hispanic Serving Institution. Arizona first-year students are also some of the brightest students in ASU history with a weighted GPA average of 3.96.

Students across all of ASU’s campuses will begin classes on Thursday, Aug. 17. Follow #ASUWelcome on social media for highlights of ASU’s welcome events.

All enrollment information is preliminary, the release noted. Updated enrollment numbers will be available on Aug. 11. Final enrollment numbers will be available mid-semester.
