Record-breaking voter turnout in Goodyear races

Aug. 2 first primary since Goodyear’s election calendar change

More Goodyear residents have turned out to vote in their city’s primary elections than they have since at least 2009, with 21,123 total ballots cast — a turnout rate over 37%.

21,123 ballots cast in a city of over 100,000 people may not sound great, but it's a big boost given the chronically low turnout seen in city primaries historically.

Voter turnout was abysmal in the city’s last primary election in 2019, when just 10,205 people showed up to vote, a turnout rate of 22%.
