OPINION — The attacks surrounding the article “Mayor’s school job scrutinized over ICE issue” (Surprise Independent, May 27) seem more focused on politics and personalities than facts.
Arizona schools are required by law to maintain emergency response and safety plans. Under Arizona Revised Statutes, every school site must maintain an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) that meets standards developed by the Arizona Department of Education and the Arizona Division of Emergency Management.
These plans include procedures for emergencies, lockdowns, evacuations and safety drills. To date, Dysart schools have met these requirements and continue to operate within state guidelines holding all required drills.
