Recapping 2025: A year of West Valley community, courage and collaboration

Posted

OPINION — As we bring 2025 to a close, I want to thank everyone who has taken time to read my opinion pieces, subscribe to my newsletter and sign my petitions. Together, our collective voices made a real difference — and that should never be underestimated.

When communities come together, they can accomplish extraordinary things. In 2025, we proved that. We stood up, spoke out and were heard.

We stopped, for now, the proposed BNSF railway project that threatened our quality of life. We helped bring a battery energy storage system to the West Valley to support an overburdened power grid in one of the fastest-growing regions in Arizona. That forward-thinking solution will help meet rising demand while improving energy reliability for families and businesses alike.

We worked alongside our city council members to pressure the Arizona Department of Transportation to address the traffic disaster at 163rd Avenue, U.S. 60 and Loop 303 — an intersection that has long posed safety concerns for residents and commuters. Real progress began because the community refused to stay silent.

Perhaps most importantly, we reached across the aisle. Republicans, Democrats and independents worked together to speak up for those who are unheard.

We also stopped a solar farm from being built on state land in Morristown, preserving land that belongs to all Arizonans. We came together to support education, successfully passing the Dysart override and investing directly in our students and teachers within the Dysart Unified School District.

There is no doubt 2025 was a busy, meaningful year.

As I look ahead to 2026, I am filled with optimism. When citizens stay informed, engaged and willing to stand up, positive change follows. Our voices matter. Together, we can continue shaping a stronger, safer and more connected future for the West Valley.
