Racquetball Club wants more players

Exercising consistently is the most important thing for people’s health, according to medical experts. Exercising while having fun is even better.

Residents can do both at the Racquetball/Whisperball Club located at R.H. Johnson Recreation Center, 19803 R.H. Johnson Blvd. Many people played racquetball in the 1970s and 1980s and loved it, and many think the sport is too hard at an older age. But many club members are 70 or older and still enjoying the game.

The good news is that if people no longer feel comfortable playing racquetball, whisperball was designed specifically for those people. It is an easier and slower paced game but just as fun as racquetball.

Anyone interested can call Eileen Scharff at 623-224-7196. Hand-eye coordination, core builder, balance and flexibility, spatial awareness, social interaction and stress

reduction are all benefits of racquetball and whisperball. Everyone at the club wants Sun City West residents to know to get  exercise, have fun and enjoy the comradeship with club members. Members play together most mornings, but the courts are open for people to play and practice at other times as well.

The club is offering free lessons to anyone interested in a refresher course on playing racquetball, or anyone interested in learning how to play whisperball. In addition, club membershop is $5, which includes several free dinners throughout the year. Another benefit is racquetball and whisperball can be played on air conditioned courts all year.

Call 563-271-3053.

The club is also testing interest for badminton in the Sun City West community in 2023. Email barbzeman19@gmail.com.
