Reader wonders if BNSF opponents’ votes will count

Posted

I have read several articles complaining about the Northwest Valley BNSF project that started with a land purchase over 20 years ago. Did people think they would build a park?

I’m sure many will vote against any proposition to rezone the area slated for this huge project, but will those votes matter?

We used to be a fairly free capitalist economy, but things have changed. Now, with a generous donation to the administration's reelection campaign despite being its second term, tariffs can be magically lifted from certain products (see Apple) and massive mergers are suddenly approved (see Paramount+).

As the BNSF saga continues and ballots are cast, keep one thought in the back of your mind: there is nothing stopping BNSF from giving a $10 million, $20 million or even a $100 million donation to save this $3.2 billion project and subsequent revenue.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that the current administration would push the project through under the guise of national security or to boost the ever-waning economy.

I believe fascism is here, folks. It’s not on the horizon, not coming, but it is here, and we are all in the midst of it.

As we continue forward as a country and if, and that’s a big if, we ever get to vote in a federal-level election again, remember this BNSF project and how something seemingly so far removed from the White House could be affected by its inhabitants.
