I agree with Lisa Everett’s letter to the editor that the political temperature needs to be toned down. However, we need to remember who is fueling the flames. Rhetoric from Donald Trump, JD Vance and the White House cabinet needs to stop. They are not blameless.
The president said at Charlie Kirk’s funeral he hates his opponents. His list of opponents seems to be endless. Blue states, Democrats and anyone else who disagrees with him. Taylor Swift is one of his opponents. Who could not love Taylor Swift?
The daily deluge of name-calling, finger-pointing, threats and the denigration of any person or organizations he dislikes gets the blame or funds cut.
His apparent animosity toward some Black women in politics is deplorable. The president’s bully pulpit tactics and disregard for others is hard to understand. He has lost the trust of the American people one day at a time. It’s been a long 10 months in political terms for the American public. Recent polls are not in his favor.
I don’t believe the Oct. 1 government shutdown was a Chuck Shumer, Hakeem Jefferies shutdown. Draw your own conclusions. The blame game continues.
Yes, we are all Americans, but more importantly we are all God’s children. Politics should unite us, not divide us, and we should forgive others, a suggestion made by Erika Kirk at her husband’s funeral. My heart goes out to her and her children. I have two beautiful, intelligent, mixed-raced granddaughters. I worry about their future.
Final thought: Any voter regrets? I don’t have any. I voted for Kamala Harris.
