OFFICERS ARRESTED

Reaction swift in some corners over arrested Phoenix Police officers

Phoenix officials and those who watch police in the city had strong reactions to the release two officers were fired and arrested for what officials called a violent traffic stop on Aug. 5.

The Phoenix Police Department arrested former officers Antonio Felix and Luis Vasquez Jr. on Saturday due to their involvement with the stop. Both were fired from their positions and charged with numerous crimes, including aggravated assault, kidnapping, threatening and intimidating, and tampering with evidence, according to the Phoenix Police Department’s Facebook page.

“Their actions severely undermine trust in law enforcement and violate the standards we expect from those who serve,” said Phoenix Police Chief Matt Giordano in a released statement. “When we become aware of misconduct, we take action and we hold officers accountable.”
