Recreation Centers of Sun City management and staff have a board-approved budget to work with in 2023.
The board rejected the proposed budget in October, actually having a majority to approve but not by two-thirds as required, then had a planning session in November to try and reconcile the proposal. One of the biggest sticking points with those who opposed the budget was a $29 increase in annual property assessments. Another was transferring $4.5 million to the capital reserve fund.
In its regular meeting Dec. 15 the board rescinded the original vote that killed the budget, then voted to approve the original motion. Because each motion needs two readings, the board met again Dec. 22 for that second reading. The budget was passed in that second vote.
