Rare painting expected to draw $500K at Glendale auction

Thomas Moran work the highlight of anticipated record turnout at EJs

A painting valued at more than $500,000 is expected to be the key piece to a record breaking auction in Glendale this month.

EJ’s Auction & Appraisal, at 5990 W. Bell Road, will put under the gavel an original untitled oil painting of Thomas Moran valued at an estimated $500,000-$750,000. Bidders on Friday, June 18 can bid in-person or online at ejsauction.com beginning at noon.

Mr. Moran (1837-1926) was an artist famous for his landscape paintings of the American West, particularly Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon. He has been called the “father of the national parks” because his vivid sketches of Yellowstone helped convince Congress to declare it the first National Park in the U.S.
