Rare occurrence boosts Powerball, Mega Millions jackpots this week

Posted

The Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots are each over $500 million, the third time they reached that level simultaneously.

The Powerball, which has a drawing Wednesday night, has made it to $750 million while Mega Millions is estimated to be $560 million for Friday’s game.

Arizona Lottery officials said the only other times each reached the $500 million level at the same time was Oct. 23 and 27 in 2018 and Jan. 20 and 22 in 2021.

The fact that it is only the third time to occur is helping to boost the jackpots since, lottery officials said, “it’s common for players to purchase tickets for both games when one or both jackpots are high.”
