Rail ordinances to compete with Gilbert mayor’s proposal emerge

New council members failed to pass anti-rail ordinance at Feb. 21 meeting

A showdown on rail in town looms at the March 7 Gilbert Town Council meeting.

Gilbert Town Council members Jim Torgeson, Chuck Bongiovanni and Bobbi Buchli requested two more rail ordinance proposals be added to the agenda for the meeting, which work in tandem but in competition to an ordinance proposed by Mayor Brigette Peterson.  The  items were posted Monday on the council agenda.

The three council members had previously put on the Feb. 21 agenda an anti-rail ordinance proposal, but it was defeated on a 4-3 vote. That ordinance would have prohibited the any expenditure of town resources, including staff time, to further light rail or commuter rail in town.
