The Apache Junction Water Utilities Community Facilities District is seeking a federal grant to pay for nearly half of the $1.9 million cost to automate the reading of its meters.
The district board, comprised of city council members, voted unanimously recently to authorize the submission of a grant application for $865,845 from the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSmart grant program.
The district would pay an additional $200,000 out of the budget plus $851,100 set aside for employees to install the devices, Water District Director Mike Loggins said at the district board’s Aug. 16 meeting.
