Queen Creek Unified School District residents voted not to approve a $286 million bond proposal on Nov. 2. The no vote came in at 59% against the measure.
After the election, QCUSD Superintendent Perry Berry issued the following statement: “I want to thank all of the residents, business partners, elected officials and community members who showed support for a quality K-12 educational system. Even though we lost this election, we will hold our heads up high and move forward in continuing to provide elite level education to the students we serve.”
The QCUSD governing board called for the bond vote to cope with what it called the “hypergrowth” of students in the district. District officials estimate 6,000 new students will enter its schools during the next 10 years. The bond money would have covered nine of those years.
