Whitman: Queen Creek Town Council ignores residents’ concerns

Posted

Residents near the proposed LG lithium factory are now claiming that the [town] council fully lied to them about the type of development proposed, then totally ignoring their concerns before voting for approval of the project.

Residents at The Pecans witnessed similar behavior by the [town] council two years ago at a meeting for a proposed Taylor Morrison housing development at Ellsworth Loop and Chandler Heights.  It was obvious to everyone there that the council had already approved the project and hearing of resident concerns was a mere formality. They had a city engineer testify that a traffic study had been completed and that it was found that Ellsworth was at one-third capacity.

This was a slap in the face to anyone that knew about rush-hour traffic on this route, which took 45 minutes to go the several miles to get to the freeway. A major contention was a long-planned throughway that was to be cancelled.

The council did not ask for the opinion of a high-ranking fire department official that was present.  I had spoken with him regarding the throughway, and he had advised me that the cancellation might cost lives due to extended response times and that he would not recommend it.  I appears that the [town] council has a pattern of being more concerned with filling the [town’s] pockets with extra tax dollars than with the actual welfare of its residents. Vote wisely.
