Queen Creek Police announces charges after gun incident at school

The Queen Creek Police Department will be filing felony and misdemeanor charges against a fourth-grade student and his parents after he brought a gun onto the campus of Legacy Traditional School-Queen Creek last week.

At 8:22 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, QCPD received a call from school staff members telling officers that a student had brought a firearm onto the campus. When officers arrived, school staff already had escorted the child away from other students to a secure area on campus.

QCPD officers seized the weapon and launched an investigation. Police said the gun, which they confirmed belonged to a family member of the child, was found in the student's backpack.
