Queen Creek joins CGCC to offer local students help with tuition costs

The town of Queen Creek has unveiled a new program for local high school students — the Queen Creek Promise Program.
Under the program, the town, along with business sponsors, will help eligible high school students to attend Chandler-Gilbert Community College, or CGCC, for two years by fully funding Arizona resident tuition and fees, according to a press release.
"After high school, CGCC is where I first started taking classes, and tuition was all on my own, so it took me longer to graduate and go through a university," Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley stated during the Jan. 24 kickoff event. "As mayor, I'm so pleased to see this program offered to our students and residents, and on behalf of the town council we welcome the next generation of community college leaders."
The Queen Creek Promise Program includes the "Last Dollar Program," which fills any gap in funding after financial aid and scholarships.
CGCC’s educational offerings include both certificates and degrees, “helping Queen Creek reinvest in its community with higher education, as well as many flexible, workforce-ready programs and degrees designed to meet the area’s current and future workforce needs,” the release stated.
Eligible Queen Creek students can use the tuition assistance to help launch a career or transfer to a university.
"Many of CGCC's certificates and two-year degrees available are for hands-on and high-demand programs such as aviation maintenance, nursing and even drones," stated CGCC President Greg Peterson in the release.
Students eligible for the program:
Must be Queen Creek resident, high school graduates
Must start at CGCC within two years of high school graduation
Must demonstrate financial need and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA
Must have a 2.0 high school GPA and maintain a 2.5 GPA at CGCC
Applications for the fall 2023 semester will open Wednesday, March 1 to Sunday, April 30. Scholarships will be awarded beginning Thursday, June 1.
