Queen Creek, Goodyear lose out to Texas for Samsung plant

$17 billion semiconductor plant opening in Taylor, Texas

After months of waiting, neither Queen Creek nor Goodyear will be the site of Samsung’s new $17 billion semiconductor factory.

According to the New York Times, the South Korean electronics company has chosen Taylor, Texas, as the site of its new North American operations. Along with Queen Creek and Goodyear, a site in Austin also had been in the running for the factory. Austin is about 35 miles south of Taylor in central Texas.

The two Valley sites first came into play in April, as state land auctions were called for both locations. The auctions kept being postponed with the most recent postponement taking place on Oct. 20. Lack of bidders forced the postponements.
