Queen Creek council to spend about $71K on holiday decorations

Town wants a winter wonderland for residents

The Queen Creek Town Council has approved spending almost $71,000 on installing new and more winter holiday decorations for the downtown area to help keep that "small-town" feel.

“How this came to be was a resident actually approached me and said, 'I would love to have a Hallmark Christmas and what do we have to do to make that happen,'” said Queen Creek Mayor-elect Julia Wheatley. “Our town does a great job already but as we're growing, it's one of those things that truly makes it feel like a small town. This is one of the things we can do as a council to just instill that in our community.”

Downtown Queen Creek’s holiday light decorations for the past several years have included mini lights on 56 of the Ellsworth Road streetlamp posts, according to a staff report. Last year, the town purchased seven "snowflakes" and seven "wreaths" that were placed on every fourth Ellsworth Road streetlamp post.
