Q&A: Scottsdale principal pilots studying full school day during pandemic

Mountainside Middle School Principal Adam Luke was all smiles behind his face mask on Monday, Feb. 22, when he welcomed students back for a full day of in-person classes on campus after nearly a year.

As the Scottsdale Unified School District considers completely reopening for the fourth quarter, Mountainside Middle is participating in a pilot project to study the effects of opening schools all day for in-person instruction during the pandemic.

Such things as data, health mitigations, staff feedback, student enrollment comparing class sizes with building square footage will be considered.  SUSD middle and high schools have operated on a limited schedule for those enrolled in in-person instruction since the fall.
