Q&A: NFL's first female referee living in Scottsdale tells her story

'Lady Ref: Making Calls in a Man’s World' out Sept. 19

Currently a Scottsdale resident, Shannon Eastin was the first woman to work as an official for the National Football League.

She is now publishing a book on Sept. 19 called “Lady Ref: Making Calls in a Man’s World” that tells the story of her journey to becoming an NFL referee and the victories and challenges she faced along the way.

Eastin has a driven personality, who trained hard and continuously looked for open doors. In 2012, a door opened because of a strike and Eastin was hired as a temporary replacement referee.
