Q&A: Meet Paradise Valley founder of Paint for a Cure

Nonprofit provides support to parents with ALS

When Paradise Valley resident Eric Weinbrenner was diagnosed with ALS, he founded the nonprofit Paint For A Cure.

Weinbrenner was first diagnosed with ALS in 2019. ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function. He took to painting to cope and shortly after formed Paint For A Cure to help others. Paint For A Cure has helped more than 90 families across the country with grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000.

As the disease rapidly progressed from 2019 to 2021 when Weinbrenner fully lost physical mobility, he shifted from panting with a hand-held paint brush to splatter paint to the wheels on his wheelchair dipped in paint.
