Putting teeth in Peoria’s dog ordinance

New law has tougher restrictions on leash requirements

Dog owners in Peoria best take heed because the city’s leash law just got some teeth.

The new code establishes prohibitions for any dog "at large," requiring that dogs be confined within an enclosure on the owner or custodian’s property, and restrained by a leash not to exceed six feet in length while outside the owner or custodian’s property.

Essentially, the old ordinance stated that if your dog is on your property, it does not have to have a leash or be constrained in any way.
