Putting closure on history: Peoria works to return historical society artifacts to owners

If the life of the Peoria Arizona Historical Society were a work of literature, it would now be entering the denouement, or the final outcome, of its story.

After years of in-fighting that included an out-of-court settlement from a legal battle, the society has been dissolved, leaving the narrative with a final resolution that involves finding the owners who donated or loaned items to the society over the years.

So far Sharon Roberson, assistant to the city manager, said the city has returned 7,000 items to about 40 core families who donated to the society.
