Peoria Unified School District officials have released a revised map detailing new proposed boundaries to eight schools in the northern part of the city.

This comes on the heels of a heated community meeting in which some parents and guardians opposed boundaries that could affect where their students would attend elementary school in the 2017-18 school year.

The schools affected are Apache, Coyote Hills, Frontier, Lake Pleasant, Parkridge, Sunset Heights, Vistancia and Zuni Hills.

The schools are located north of Bell Road, and the district boundary goes to the Yavapai County line, an area that has seen explosive growth in the last 10 years, which has led to overcrowding in some schools and accounted for the need to re-draw certain school boundaries.

The district will hold a second community boundary meeting 6 p.m.,  April 4 in the Liberty High School Auditorium 9621 W. Speckled Gecko Drive.

Spokeswoman Danielle Airey said that since the last community meeting, the boundary committee has met, made revisions to their previous proposal and will be sharing a new proposal, which is not yet final.

Readers can view a copy of the proposed changes as well as all documents and materials related to the boundary committee on the district’s website here.

K-12 administrator Steve Savoy said at a recent PUSD Governing Board meeting the objective of the border committee is to bring a recommendation to the governing board that doesn't put them in a lurch.

Changes to the initial map include boundary adjustments at Avenue of the Arts and Lake Pleasant Parkway, as well as  91st Avenue and Deer Valley Road, Mr. Savoy said.

"We want to have this as vetted as most we can so (the governing board) can feel confident that the committee has done the work, listened to the community and in most instances been able to respond to what we have heard," Mr. Savoy said.
