The community is invited to help in the removal of trash and debris along New River and its trail system 7 to 10 a.m., Saturday, April 22 at New River just west of Dream City Church 21000 N. 75th Ave.
This clean up is one of Peoria’s Party for the Planet activities in April celebrating Earth Day.
The success of the clean up relies on the generous help of volunteers. Groups, individuals, youth and adults are invited to help clean the natural environment and keep the community looking great.
Those interested in volunteering can preregister by visiting www.peoriaaz.gov/ specialevents and clicking on Party for the Planet. Volunteers will need to wear tennis shoes or closed-toed shoes, as other shoes will not be allowed.
Volunteers will meet at the trail entrance at Rose Garden Lane. Volunteer check in is from 6:30 to 7 a.m. Parking is available in the Dream City Church parking lot.
Also part of the Party for the Planet celebration, the Planetpalooza EarthDay Festival will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., April 22 at Westwing Park, 27100 N. Westwing Parkway. Attendees can learn to be more sustainable in daily life, while also enjoying prizes and giveaways, handcrafted food, food trucks and entertainment.
Throughout the month of April, city-sponsored programs include Earth Day activities at the libraries, bulktrash clean-up, household hazardous waste collection, Arbor Day tree plantings and Sustainable U workshops.
