Chandler police chief finalists meet the public

Five finalists to become the next permanent Chandler Police chief met with city officials, a review committee and the public Feb. 1, with all five hoping to be impressive enough to get hired.

City Manager Josh Wright will make the final decision. There is no definite time frame for the decision, though Chandler, like cities nationwide, work on the next fiscal year’s budget in the spring and a new chief will likely want to talk about budgeting with the city manager and council.

Melissa DeAnda was recently appointed Acting Chief as the previous chief of 10 years, Sean Duggan, retired. She and Assistant Chief Bryan Cox didn’t apply for the permanent chief position; the city charter requires the chief and all other department directors to live within the city limits.
