Public Art is signature style at SOHO Scottsdale Earth Day Event

SOHO Scottsdale’s public art commitment will be celebrated from 5 to 7 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22, at an event on the development’s commercial patio areas at 92nd Street and Bahia.

The newest art, commissioned with artist Jeff Zischke, named “Global Unity,” according to a press release, relates to the theme of man, nature and technology, is planned to be installed later this year at SOHO Scottsdale, 16580 N. 92nd St., Unit 2004, as a collaboration between the city of Scottsdale and Scottsdale Public Art.

Mr. Zische’s sculpture depicting people supporting each other and balancing the Earth is noted as “meaningful after this pandemic year,” the release said. noting that he will be available during the event.

An internationally acclaimed artist and designer of public and private art commissions, the artist will discuss his sculpture concept with renderings. His first Scottsdale piece was installed at WestWorld’s Equestrian Center in 2014.

Described as the iconic horse sculpture, called “Impulsion," is illuminated at night with colored lights, noted the release.

The sculpture depicts men and women supporting each other, supporting the natural world, and the technology element incorporates modern computer controlled lighting and programming.

The design includes silhouette figures of men and woman made of stainless steel, standing on or balancing each other, and holding a round globe in various shades of green, blue and satin white, the release said, noting the green land masses, ocean, and polar ice caps representation.

Scottsdale Arts Public Art Director Kim Boganey and her staff are spearheading the new art installation and emphasizes that “as part of Scottsdale’s Art in Private Development public art program, Jeff Zischke’s new sculpture was commissioned to create an artwork that enhances SOHO Scottsdale’s art filled luxury community.”

“The common thread among all Catclar Communities is that they are quality-driven, environmentally friendly projects built to complement neighboring communities,” said Irene Clary, Catclar Investments president, which is the developer of SOHO Scottsdale, in a prepared statement.

In 2017, three other artists contributed sculptures, murals are and artistic paving when Ms. Clary introduced SOHO’s first phase of townhomes and lofts.

Public art muralist Lauren Lee, based in Phoenix, integrated her three-part mural into the overall design of the SOHO community which highlights the interconnectedness of man, technology and nature also.

Christopher Weed, a “well-recognized sculptor in Colorado,” created sculptures as a metaphor for the “building blocks” necessary to build healthy individuals, families and communities.

He designed five colorful and larger-than- life sculptural elements that contrast one another while complementing the surrounding architecture.

The Lithocrete paving created by artist Leticia Huerta separates the public courtyard from the private entrances at the townhomes, the release said.

Glass aggregate, with hues of blue and turquoise, is laid into the colored concrete in abstract shapes of flowers and waves and complements the other public art pieces.

SOHO Scottsdale is embarking on Phase II and Phase III with 28 additional three and four-story townhomes plus optional private elevators, 18 lofts and four penthouses. Phase II and III penthouses, lofts and townhomes are available for pre-sales.
