Public appeals for Scottsdale schools to fully open

As some Scottsdale Unified School District middle and high school students returned to campuses on Jan. 19, many public pleas were made to return to in-person instruction, including an executive order to be enacted by the United States president.

Opinions of parents and teachers were heard during the Governing Board’s meeting that night. Before discussing building level COVID-19 metrics, board members listened to input on opening schools.

Earlier in the month, the Governing Board called to convene a committee to consider possible threshold metrics that would be used to determine when a building should return to virtual learning. The district has used a school-by-school decision making process prior.
