Amid backlash, Proudfit, Rooks explain vote against mental health grant

Voted against funding extension for social workers

In the wake of a heated reaction from parents, two Peoria Unified governing board members who voted against a grant funding extension for student mental health services are explaining why.

Last week the governing board split a vote, 2-2, on whether to accept what would have been an extension of the Mental Health Service Professionals Demonstration Grant through June 30, 2025.

The grant was set to expire Sept. 30, and the extension would have funded three social work field instructors for another nine months.
