OPINION — I am so proud to live in Surprise.
On Feb. 3, our community witnessed leadership at its best. The Surprise City Council presided over a difficult, emotionally charged meeting with professionalism, patience and respect — qualities that matter deeply when a community is grappling with uncertainty.
The proposed ICE detention facility was not on the agenda, and it is important for the public to understand that the project does not fall under city zoning authority. Even so, the mayor and every member of the Surprise City Council listened attentively as well over 100 residents stepped up to the microphone, one by one, to voice their concerns.
