Prospectors lose to Spartans in softball, 10-2

Posted

The Apache Junction Prospectors (6-4) hosted the Vista Grande Spartans (5-16) on April 11. Both teams were looking to close out the remainder of the season strong with only five games remaining.

Prospectors’ pitcher Shaunna Harper had a phenomenal game. Harper had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning despite the team losing 7-0 up to that point. A mix of poor fielding, calculated sacrifice bunts by the Spartans and walks, the Spartans were able to put up seven runs without getting a hit. Eventually, in the sixth inning, Alexa Regan of the Spartans was able to knock an infield single to break up the no-hitter.

The Prospectors were unable to get their bats going until the seventh inning. After a leadoff double by Harper, Anissa Rivera grabbed the first RBI of the game with a double herself. Payton Dillon was able to capitalize with a runner in scoring position to cut the lead down to eight after a single with only one out in the inning. However, a caught-stealing attempt ended the game with a final score of 10-2.
