Proposed Southwest Phoenix parks could boost area

A Laveen park is being considered for the upcoming city budget

At several recent city of Phoenix budget meetings, public support came pouring in for a new park in the southwest Valley.

Nearly 70 people called or wrote in to support funding a park at 55th Avenue and Samantha Way in Laveen, a growing village near the Loop 202 freeway. Just one resident spoke about the need for green space at 99th Avenue and Buckeye Road in Estrella Village. Several noted that new parks had been promised in the region for years with nothing to show for it.

Gregg Bach, a spokesman for the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, said the Laveen park is under consideration but one in Estrella is not currently in the cards.
