Proposed Mesa noise ordinance update has new fines for violations

The Mesa City Council on Thursday is set to vote on an ordinance that in part updates penalty provisions for offensive, excessive and prohibited noises from vehicles, animals, sound amplification systems in or on vehicles, from property and from people.

The meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. in the council chambers, 57 E. First St., and can be viewed on local cable Mesa Channel 11 or at mesaaz.tv/live or facebook.com/CityofMesa.

The council at a Nov. 21 meeting voted unanimously to set Dec. 1 as the date of the public hearing on the ordinance amending Title 6 of the Mesa City Code under police regulations by repealing and replacing chapter 12 titled “offensive, excessive and prohibited noises,” clarifying definitions, prohibitions and exemption procedures, and updating penalty provisions.
