Proposed Glendale budget features changes in fire department

Separate department of emergency management on table

Glendale staff unveiled the city's proposed $668.6 million fiscal year 2025 budget in a workshop Tuesday morning, pointing out additional costs and a new department.

Following a couple years of stashing the service in the Fire-Medical Department, the city proposes creating a separate Emergency Management Department.

This new department would lead efforts to educate, plan, organize, equip, train and exercise with the goal of protecting, life, property and the environment. If approved, this budget allows emergency management to have four full-time equivalent staff members, and the entire department budget is $1.079 million.
